Back to School Safety Tips

Dropping off your kids for school may seem like a straightforward task. However, going back to school can be an extremely confusing and stressful time for all students and parents, and it’s important to use caution whenever you drive or walk with your kids, especially if you’re going to a brand new school.

Whether you drive your kids to school, or have them use the school bus, it’s important to be aware of the regulations the school has for parking and dropping children off. They may have strict rules and designated areas, so be sure to talk to the staff before school even begins. According to statistics, more children get hit by cars near the school grounds than anywhere else, so this is a crucial step to take for back to school safety.

A few important tips for driving your children to school should include the following:

  • Avoid double parking, since it blocks visibility for other vehicles and kids.
  • Don’t block the crosswalk when you stop at an intersection, as children might be exposed to oncoming traffic as they try to go around your car.
  • Make sure you avoid loading or unloading children from your car on the other side of the road.
  • If you have more than one child, carpool in order to reduce the number of vehicles you arrive in.
  • Instruct your child to wait for you in a safe location close to the school when the time comes to go home.

You can never be too careful about the specifics of taking your little ones to a new school, so always make sure all the safety requirements are met.  Other measures of safety, like having a skilled Centennial electrician out for an inspection for the electrical is something the local schools already have done.  So there should be no worries when it comes to electrical lines outside or inside to concern your children about.
